An old chant for coaxing surf from flat spells:

Kū mai!  Kū mai!  Ka nalu nui mai Kahiki mai,
Alo poʻi pū!  
Kū mai ka pōhuehue, 
Hū!  Kaikaʻo loa.
 
Arise, arise great surf from Kahiki,
The powerful curling waves.
Arise with the pōhuehue (a type of morning-glory),
Well up, long raging surf.
