If you do not prefer an oversized fit, we recommend sizing down one for a more standard fitting t-shirt. Jason is 5'5" and wearing a size XS.
We want to give a special mahalo to Roen McDonald, who gave us permission to use this illustration, which she created in the late-1970s for her mother's book Ka Lei: The Leis of Hawaii. Her mother is the late Marie Leilehua Adams McDonald, who was a preeminent expert and scholar in all-things-lei. "The lei is an expression of love, affection, honor, and respect," Aunty Marie once said, "it's the most beautiful thing I can make, from the most beautiful material at hand."
To learn more about this remarkable mother-daughter duo, this article is a great start. Roen lives in Waimea, where she grows vegetables and flowers at her family-run Honopua Farm. She is also a master of kapa, a traditional Hawaiian textile, which she creates and uses in her art.
